Our Wheeler County High School football team electrified the crowd Friday night with a 35 to 0 win over Telfair County. What a great way to begin the season. The team has a lot ahead of them, but they know they have the support of the Wheeler County fans. This Friday they will go up against Savannah Christian. It will be a tough game, but we know our dawgs are up for the challenge. Go DAWGS!

All of Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites will dedicate a day to visitors free of charge on Saturday, September 25th. The regular $5.00 parking fees will be waived that day and historic sites will open their doors for free. September 25th is also, National Hunting and Fishing day and anglers will not need a fishing license that day at many of the locations.
If you haven’t done any hiking or just plain site seeing at Little Ocmulgee State Park that would be a great time to come out and enjoy the view.

Sadly, summer is almost over; however, I am not sure if the thermometor reflects that just yet. But, it is time to get those school clothes and supplies ready for the coming school year.
If you would like to help students get a good start this year you can donate some supplies. A list of the things each grade level will be needing is in the Wheeler County Eagle date July 21, 2010. Or, we know they always need things like hand sanitizer, Kleenex, loose leaf paper, #2 wooden pencils, erasers, scissors and crayons. So, even if you don’t have a student in your house this year you can help out by providing some of these needed items.
We hope that Wheeler County schools has the best year yet, go dawgs!

Starting in July we will be spotlighting one of our member businesses each month. I will be dropping by each business and collecting a business card to place in the hat and one will be drawn out at our board meetings.
If you are the lucky winner, someone will come by your business and gather information, pictures, etc., to post on this website and we have a corner in the chamber office especially set up to spotlight your business during that month.
So, good luck to all of you. I will be seeing you soon.

There are a lot of things we can’t do anything about, but we can help keep our county clean. Of course, the most obvious way is to put trash into proper containers.
But, we can also recycle whenever possible. We have bins located at the corner of Stubbs and McRae in Alamo for recycling.
You will want to seperate your trash by categories such as: magazines and books, tin cans, newspaper, brown glass, plastic and clear glass.
So, take a few extra minutes to rinse out those items, seperate them from your regular trash and visit our recycle bins!
