The county
seat of Wheeler County, Alamo, was incorporated on August
16, 1909. The city is named for the site of the famous battle
of Texas independence from Mexico. The Wheeler County courthouse,
in Alamo, was constructed in 1917 and is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Alamo is located near the intersection
of GA 126 and US 280 near the western border of Wheeler County.
